Class98 is short for Class of 1998 and is the graduating class of 1998 of Lodge Preparatory School and Kindergarten, located in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. Many of us have known each other since we were three years old - our first year of kindergarten. Since then, we have gone through three years of kindergarten, six years of primary school and five years of secondary school before graduating in 1998. On the way, many people have joined our class from other schools.
We see ourselves as a very close and tight-knit group of friends who have gone through a lot together.
Lodge Preparatory School and Kindergarten is a private school located in a small city called Kuching, in the state of Sarawak in East Malaysia. Lodge School is a non-profit organization, run by parents of its students. With its motto of "Learn, Persevere, Succeed", Lodge School strives to achieve academic excellence through its teachers.
We have many fond memories of their years spent in Lodge School and are proud to call themselves former students of Lodge School. We are also extremely grateful to all the teachers of the school as they have taught us a lot, both academically and about life. Our teachers are the people who are not only responsible for our great academic success during our time in Lodge School but are also partly responsible for making us who we are today.
In the beginning, Class98 was actually many classes. There were three different classes in kindergarten. After kindergarten, some of us left and the three classes became two in primary school. As the class went through primary school, new students joined us from other schools. But through secondary school, students started to leave, mostly to study overseas. This caused the class sizes to drop.
The most significant milestone of Class98 was in 1997 when the school decided to combine the two classes into one. Although the two classes always had a rivalry between them, we hit it off immediately. The rest, as they say, is history. The class became spent an enjoyable two years together before graduating at the end of 1998.
After graduating from Lodge School, the class went our separate ways. Almost all of us went overseas to further our studies. We were spread throughout the world - Australia, New Zealand, Canada, United Kingdom and of course Malaysia, just to name a few. At the end of each year, during school or university breaks, most of us would meet up again back in our hometown, a time we all look forward to every year. Despite the distance, we have remained quite close friends.
This brings us to the present day we most of us are still studying while some have graduated and have started working life.
Class98.org is the official website for Class98 and is a medium for members to keep in touch with each other by sharing photos and news from one side of the globe to another.
Class98 made its mark on the World Wide Web in 1997 when the very first version of the website was created by Joseph Kong. The original purpose of the website was to enable the class to view photos from class events such as concert performances and class trips.
In 1998, the maintenance of the website was passed over to Vincent Teo who experimented with various HTML-only versions from 1998 to 1999. Vincent, who was in Australia at that time, while the rest were elsewhere, realized that the website would be a great place to communicate with his friends. Since then he has maintained and managed the website through multiple versions.
With the help of the boom of digital photography and broadband internet, the website now has over a thousand photos - from trips, dinners, parties to other events.
